This is a show we try to make every year. The pig show and fair at Mountain View Oklahoma are the best we’ve been to, and we’ve shown all over the country. These pictures are from 2008, but I just found them, thought I’d throw them on the blog. Memories. Please forgive my lack of skills that day, it was 110 degrees in the shade so I was rather lazy about shooting quality and more concerned with capturing memories for my family.
We got to the show early to turn in weights and settle in. The high school kids have little restaurants set up for fair patrons and some might say this is the best food west of the Mississippi. =)

Show time. I love these, Memphis looks so tiny…still, determined to do a good job showing. lol

It was a huge show. Facilities aren’t the greatest, but they’ll do. We just loved the whole show and fair and tractor pull, so much fun! Look, it was dark by the time Mason got to show.

These were taken at around 10pm and it was still over 100 degrees. I love how Mason had all of his family in the stands cheering him on. =)
Show’s over, back to the fair!

These are precious to me. Mason and his cousins Chandler and Ethan. They were having a blast.

Little Memphis. He was disappointed the boys ran off before he could ask them to ride with him too. His daddy and I climbed in and road with him.

These were from Saturday evening. There are so many limbs down, but I can’t help but be thankful it’s not worse. Imagine if our trees weren’t mostly oak. The Redbud trees didn’t fair well unfortunately… some of our favorites.
The trees below were gorgeous in the summer. The one on the right is completely covered in grapevine which produces huge foliage in the summer. I can’t imagine how the one on the left will look after this…. if it survives.

Here are a few more from around the yard.

The boys fort has survived so far! lol
Okay, here’s the north end of the house. Thank God the heat pump wasn’t hit. It looks like another branch is on the house (at the peak next to the antennae) but it’s just a really big tree way behind the house. The only limbs actually on the house are from the tree in the foreground.

These were taken yesterday just after sunset. Please excuse the grain, it was getting dark. It was still snowing pretty heavily, the snow ended in the night. Limbs were really stressed under the snow and ice.
We had one large limb hit the house this morning….it was on the north end. No major damage to the roof (as far as we know), but it took out the TV antennae….and woke us all up. Mark walked around the house today trying to determine if any more could hit the house….we think we’re safe. Who knows… it’s the price we pay for such a beautiful place to live. We really didn’t think that one would hit the house.
I took more pics this evening, I’ll go through those and hopefully post them in the next update. Power has been back on for about 30 minutes, not sure how long it will last.

Below is the same limb as in the last post. The one in the circle drive.

These are from this morning. More rain is expected…hopefully turning to sleet to spare the trees. The news reported snow coming, it looks like it will be rain here though.
Below are pecan trees in the pasture south of our house.

Below is the driveway to the barn. Our trees are nearly all oaks and are old, strong trees. They’ve seen worse ice than this in the 11 years we’ve lived here.

Below is from in front of the house. You can see our roof at the very bottom. This is a little deceiving, we don’t have any large branches directly over the house….lots of small ones though.

Below is from the circle drive in front of the house. This tree has lost limbs before. We had people out to look at it, they said it was healthy, just had a bad limb…. I’m not sure I believe that.
Well it started snowing as I was typing, I pray the snow slips right through the trees and to the ground.
Below is northwest of the house, still in the yard. You can see the trash barrels to the right. lol Lovely, aren’t they. =)

Below are tiny limbs and chunks of ice that are covering the ground.

Sweet Maggie. She’s so sad. She’s not really that cold, it’s only 30 degrees outside. She’s scared, the ice and limbs falling from the trees are terrifying her. =(

So after church we saw this little junk yard off in a pasture. From the road I could see an old 80’s model Caddy and thought hummm. We pulled up, grabbed the baby and the camera and shot a few. Lighting was all wrong and the wind was horrible…. but I think we got a few fun shots.
